Current student checklist

Official transcriptsRequest these early from your school's registrar. They can take 1-2 weeks and you will need sealed copies for ARDMS.

Observation hours documentationKeep a log of every shadowing hour signed by the supervising sonographer. ARDMS may ask for verification.

CPR certificationMost programs require current BLS for Healthcare Providers. Keep your card current - it expires.

Program director verification letterThis confirms you are enrolled or completed an accredited program. Ask your director what format ARDMS expects.

Student ID copyA clear photocopy of your current student ID. Some applications ask for this as supplementary proof of enrollment.
Recent grad checklist

Official transcripts - final, with degree conferredRequest your final transcript showing degree awarded. This is different from your in-progress transcript.

Program completion certificateYour school should provide a certificate or letter confirming successful completion of the program.

Observation hours (if still needed)If you are applying through a pathway that requires documented observation hours, make sure your log is complete and signed.

Employer verification (if working)If you have already started working, your employer may need to verify your position and scan volume for certain credential pathways.

Prepare for the SPIThe SPI is your first exam. You cannot sit for specialty registries until you pass it. Start studying now.
Career changer checklist

All prior transcripts (every school)ARDMS and program admissions want to see your full academic history. Request from every college you attended.

Prerequisite course verificationCheck that your prior coursework meets the program's prereq requirements. You may need syllabi or course descriptions.

Observation hours (often 8-16 required)Many programs require documented shadowing hours. Call imaging departments early - these spots fill fast.

Health clearance / immunizationsClinical sites require current immunizations and sometimes a physical. Start this process early - titers can take time.

Background check (if required)Some programs and clinical sites require a criminal background check. Ask your program what vendor they use.

Shadowing verification lettersGet signed letters from each sonographer you shadowed. Include their credentials and contact information.

Check if any credits transferMeet with an admissions counselor. Some general education credits may transfer, saving you time and money.
